Phu Trong praised Raul Castro’s ‘absolute dedication’ to the ideals of the Revolution and the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and his significant contributions to the construction of socialism in the Caribbean nation.
He also congratulated him for the successful 8th PCC Congress, and asserted that his decision not to be reelected as first secretary shows full confidence in the new leaders of the country, who are faithful successors of Fidel Castro’s thought and Raul himself.
At that event, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel was elected to that position.
The Vietnamese leader also sent him a congratulatory message.
Phu Trong emphasized that Raul Castro has been ‘an endearing, reliable and close friend and companion of the Vietnamese Party, State and people for more than six decades’, he wished him good health, and invited him to visit Vietnam.
Finally, he expressed his certainty that Raul Castro will continue to contribute to the Cuban Revolution and to the strengthening of bilateral relations.
