Local press reports indicate that Tabesh was killed last night by unidentified gunmen who broke into her home during the evening meal to break the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan.
The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) echoed the news by denouncing that incidents of this kind have increased recently in Afghanistan and no one has claimed responsibility for most of the crimes.
Tabesh, who was the leader of the Handball Federation in the northern city of Sar-e-Pul, was remembered by that entity as a brave athlete.
Meanwhile, Fayyaz Sidiqi, director of the sport in Afghanistan, said that her death is not only a great loss for the handball federation, but for the entire sports community in the country.
