The Central Committee, elected yesterday, will hold its first meeting on Monday and will be in charge of electing the main positions within the PCC for the 2021-2026 period. Raul Castro, current first secretary of the Party, announced that he will step down from this position.
When presenting the Central Report on April 16th, he said that he ends his tenure with the satisfaction of having fulfilled his duty, the confidence in the future of the Homeland, with the thoughtful conviction of not accepting a proposal to remain in higher positions in the Party.
He affirmed that he will continue ‘to serve as just another revolutionary combatant, willing to make my modest contribution until the end of his life.’
The Congress approved several resolutions on Sunday, including the one that updates the concept of the Cuban Economic and Social Model of Socialist Development, which endorses the purpose of building a society with the vision of a sovereign, independent, socialist, democratic, prosperous and sustainable country.
Somo 200 guidelines were also adopted on the main directions of work up until 2026 in order to channel the priorities of the economy.
