‘The political partiality shown by the OAS secretary general, which is not up to the standards of the regional structure of the countries of the Western Hemisphere, is extremely regrettable,’ warns a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The message stressed that as on previous occasions, Almagro’s ‘anti-Russian attacks demonstrate ‘his own ultra-pro U.S. stance’, which he spreads on behalf of the organization in which Russia has status of a permanent observer.
Moscow notes that the OAS Secretary General ‘should not be distracted by lecturing observer countries, but should be more concerned with pressing regional problems, especially in these difficult times’.
US President Josep Biden on Thursday approved a package of sanctions against 32 Russian companies and individuals and expelled 10 officials from the Russian diplomatic mission.
In addition, the White House will prohibit US companies from directly purchasing Russian debt securities issued by the Russian Central Bank, National Wealth Fund or Finance Ministry after June 14, 2021.
