ECOSOC to debate at UN how to access Covid-19 vaccines

United Nations, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will hold a high-level meeting under the slogan ¨A vaccine for All¨, in order to study how to achieve equitable access to the Covid-19 vaccine doses.

On repeated occasions since the beginning of the pandemic, ECOSOC has laid stress on the need to consider such vaccines as global public good.

For such a reason, ECOSOC will discuss avenues to close financing gap and increase vaccine supply, accessibility and distribution worldwide.

Likewise, it will address about what measures to take in order to strengthen capacities, infrastructure and preparation of countries for the distribution of vaccines.

On Thursday, the Director of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala asked nations and pharmaceutical companies a series of steps to increase vaccine production and to distribute them more equitably.
