According to NBC News, when meeting with Afghan leaders in Kabul, Blinken reiterated Washington’s commitment to help the Afghan Government, the US troops have withdrawn, a process that will end by September 11.
The date will mark 20 years since the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York and other places in the US, which led Washington to unleash what it called the ‘war on terrorism’.
‘I wanted to demonstrate with my visit the ongoing commitment of the United States to the Islamic Republic and the people of Afghanistan (…) The partnership is changing, but the partnership is enduring,’ Blinken said, as quoted by NBC News.
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Biden said it was time to end the US longest war and vowed not to hand the ongoing conflict over to his predecessor.
