In an exchange with journalists, Giammattei said the control of travelers will be one of the measures to reduce current third coronavirus wave in the country.

We are returning to the death toll reported in July and August, 2020. Guatemala has reached 37 coronavirus deaths, so it is time to take extreme measures and urge population to collaborate, Giammattei said.

Guatemala has reported 2,013 new Covid-19 cases, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic on March 13, 2020, and on Wednesday 1,805 new cases have been also reported.

Regarding vaccination issue, Giammattei stated that all centers have been defined and will announce in coming days what the strategy will be like before the arrival of the first Russia Sputnik V vaccine doses in the end of April.
