Covid-19 deaths in Africa decrease, but famine is a threat

Nairobi, Apr 13 (Prensa Latina) Africa on Monday reported 262 deaths due to causes related to Covid-19, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Tuesday, the same average figure reported over the weekend, an arithmetical coincidence.

No one will take the risk of formulating a hypothesis, let alone claiming that the pandemic has been controlled in Africa. However, in reality, except for sporadic jolts due to inexplicable increases in deaths and contagions, the pandemic is slowly advancing in all 55 member countries of the African Union.

However, another calamity is threatening eastern Africa: famine, which would affect seven million people, the non-governmental organization World Vision warned in a statement on Tuesday, according to which ‘if the international community does not act immediately, thousands of children would have to face serious consequences or die.’

A desert locust plague has devastated several African countries for two years and has destroyed crops, including survival crops in remote places.

Meanwhile, the CPC report on Tuesday showed 4,361,623 Covid-19 contagions, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, and an increase in 10,004 new cases on Monday.
