According to the main scientist who monitors the phenomenon, Richard Robertson, new eruptions are not discarded, they may be larger than those occurred in 1979, the last one registered after the one in 1902 having caused over a thousand deaths.
He detailed that before past Friday’s event, the dome had a volume of 13 million cubic meters of magma that were thrown into the atmosphere.
The scientist warned of the volcanic ash’s dangers for the health of people, buildings and agriculture and recommended using facemasks to avoid inhalation, particularly for those suffering from respiratory diseases.
