Zúñiga will return to Washington without Bukele, assiduous in commenting on current events on Twitter, not even referring to that high-level visit on that social network or in any other public forum.
‘On this trip we asked for an appointment with the president but we never confirmed that meeting,’ said Biden’s envoy in a conversation with the media in San Salvador.
Instead, Zúñiga met with Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill, but neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the other government agencies echoed the meeting.
This silence contrasts with the loquacity with which the Bukele administration highlighted its encounters with any representative of the previous United States government, when the hashtag #SocioConfiable was daily.
However, the relationship began to suffer since Biden´s officials refused to receive Bukele on a trip he made to the United States just before the February 28 elections in El Salvador.
