Argentinian government allocates additional funds for vaccines

Buenos Aires, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) The Argentinian government will allocate an investment for research on immunization strategies and development of vaccines against Covid-19 that are in the preclinical phase, the Ministry of Science and Technology reported on Friday.

According to an institutional statement, this ministry will support the development of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 that are in the preclinical phase with 400 million pesos (about four million dollars) and two appeals for new network research on the effects of this disease.

The National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development and Innovation (Agencia I+D+i) of the Ministry of Science will grant 250 million pesos (about 2 million dollars) to those teams that are in advanced stages of the preclinical phase of vaccines against Covid-19.

Minister of Science and Technology, Roberto Salvarezza, thanked the officials and members of the evaluation committee for participating in this initiative and highlighted the role of the I+D+i Agency.

He also stressed the importance of the Science System Financing Act approved by Congress and enacted by the Executive Power, after stating that science has become pivotal in the emergency.

In addition to supporting research for the development of vaccines in the preclinical phase, two new appeals for proposals will be made.

The first one will promote new basic research to devise and develop strategies aimed at providing lasting immunity against SARS-CoV-2, and the other one will be aimed at setting up new research networks to study the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the effects of the disease.
