Egypt’s authorities recommend healthy diet during Ramadan

Cairo, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) Egypt's Minister of Health Hala Zayed on Thursday recommended to all citizens following a healthy diet during Ramadan as part of preventive measures against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of Covid-19 disease.

Fruits and vegetables, rich in natural fibers, boost immunity, said the minister, who also called for reducing consumption of sugary and processed foods typical of the holy month.

Zayed urged to drink more water between fasting (iftar) and night meals (sohur), especially the elderly, chronically ill and pregnant women.

Regarding the rest of the precautionary provisions, the minister insisted on keeping distance inside mosques, wearing facemasks, personal prayer mats and delivering charity food directly to the house of poor families.

‘It is proven that relaxing caution in religious and social celebrations leads to a peak of Covid-19 cases’ Zayed noted, citing figures from Ramadan 2020, when restrictions were even tighter.

Other general rules to prevent Covid-19 include frequent hand washing, not sharing personal items, disinfecting surfaces, reducing home visits and avoiding enclosed or crowded places, she pointed out.
