Granma newspaper reported that an extensive investment program aims to improve this modality and the Ministry of Transport gave details about this issue.
Deputy Transport Minister Roberto Ricardo Marrero said that the projections for that plan include repair of locomotives, railways, wagons for the sugar harvest, and the development of railcars.
In this regard, Marrero highlighted the agreement established with the Iron and Steel Industry Business Group (GESIME), which is responsible for the manufacture of parts demanded in technical works.
In general, the Ministry plans to boost the railway activity in the country, so it will improve some 1,600 kilometers of damaged railway tracks in the 2021-2022 period.
