Cuban doctors save lives in Turks and Caicos Islands

Cockburn Town, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban medical brigade that has been working in the Turks and Caicos Islands for nine months in the fight against Covid-19 and other diseases has saved 101 lives so far, diplomatic sources informed in the capital.

The 20 healthcare professionals arrived in this Caribbean territory from Havana on June 14, 2020 and up to date they have carried out 13,224 medical consultations, 42,308 nursing procedures and 123 surgeries.

Members of the Henry Reeve International Medical Contingent, Specialized in Situations of Disasters and Serious Epidemics received here in February the Star Icons of the Pandemic Award given by the Tourism Association of this British overseas territory.

The head of the medical brigade, Alfredo Moran, highlighted in a message to Prensa Latina the honor that this recognition means for the healthcare cooperators, but, he clarified, our greatest prize are the lives saved and the affection of the local population.

This work, he noted, is part of a great work that we are carrying out in 40 countries around the world.

Numerous organizations and personalities from all over the world are promoting the nomination of this Cuban medical contingent for the Nobel Peace Prize.
