‘(…) One of the most emblematic Latin American writers who transcends time through his brilliant novels that convey the diversity and essence of our customs,’ the president tweeted.
Considered the most relevant Venezuelan novelist of the 20th century, Romulo Gallegos wrote works of universal transcendence such as ‘Doña Barbara,’ which became a classic of Hispanic-American literature.
In the national political scenario, Gallegos was president of the Republic from Feb.17 to Nov.24, 1948, when he was ousted by the coup d’état led by Carlos Delgado Chalbaud.
