According to Afghan government sources, the highest number of casualties occurred from a Taliban attack on a checkpoint in Helmand province, where 20 soldiers were killed and 14 were held prisoner.
The Taliban also attacked another army security area in the Shindand district of Herat, killing over 10 members of the security forces and injuring seven others, according to the same sources.
Hours earlier, at least three members of the security forces were murdered and 12 others wounded in a car bomb explosion in the central Paghman district of the capital.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks by issuing a communiqué.
