Vaccination campaign for medical personnel in Cuban province

Camagüey, Cuba, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) In the next few weeks, medical personnel in Cuba's largest province will be the first to be vaccinated with Abdala, according to the Public Health Ministry.

Abdala, one of the five vaccine candidates that the nation is promoting in its fight against Covid-19, already has more than 90,000 people in clinical trials in phase III, and its application has been extended for weeks in several provinces of eastern Cuba.

For the Public Health professionals of this region, a little more than 540 kilometers from Havana, the doses will be available in 14 days, an action that will strengthen the health care system itself, aimed at a population of about 800,000 inhabitants.

Camagüey’s hospital infrastructure is among the largest in the country, with two health care centers dedicated to the care of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2, in addition to a Molecular Biology Laboratory and several isolation institutions.

In the provincial capital, Cuba’s third most populated city, there has been an increasing trend of positive cases of the virus in the last few weeks, a scenario that forces doctors and science professionals to protect themselves on the front line.
