Presidents of Russia and Belarus celebrate Day of Unity

Moscow, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) Presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko exchanged congratulations on Friday on the occasion of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus.

In a telephone conversation, both presidents expressed their readiness to continue promoting mutual relations, and analyzed the progress of bilateral cooperation in the confrontation with Covid-19, an official note reported Friday.

The April 2 celebration coincides with the anniversary of the signing of the treaty on the formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus (1996), which initiated the process of mutual integration.

The treaty on the establishment of the Union State was signed on December 8, 1999, as well as the program of action of the two countries for the implementation of the provisions included in the pact.

Lukashenko assured that during the 25 years since the signing of the treaty on the formation of the Community of Belarus and Russia, the countries achieved great progress in the construction of the Union, Sputnik news agency reported.

In his message, Putin stressed that the Union State mechanisms ensure a high level of cooperation between Moscow and Minsk in the political and economic spheres.

On the celebration, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the Kremlin attaches great importance to the unity between the two countries, which in itself represents the most advanced format of integration since the disappearance of the Soviet Union.
