Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev indicated that the Northern Sea Route is currently 30 percent more expensive than the one that passes through the Suez Canal, but is shorter, Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper stated today.
Trutnev proposed lowering Arctic shipping prices and suggested developing icebreaker operating hours so that shipping line operators can schedule their trips.
The Arctic sea route gained strength in recent days after the blockage of several ships in the Suez Canal due to the grounding of Ever Given container ship on March 23.
