Nicaragua distributes polio vaccine donated by Mexico

Managua, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The 650,000 doses of the oral polio vaccine donated by Mexico to Nicaragua will be distributed across the country between Thursday and Friday, according to Minister of Health Martha Reyes.

To us, it is very important (the donation) because it will strengthen the development of the vaccination campaign that begins on April 6, the head of the vaccination campaign said upon receiving the shipment at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport.

Reyes highlighted this gesture of solidarity, since, besides immunizations, the Mexican government covered air transportation costs.

The national polio vaccination campaign, which will take place between April 6 and 25, plans to administer 1,003,000 doses.

The national vaccination system in Nicaragua includes protection against 16 diseases, the minister recalled.

Aranzazu Payan, chargé d’Affaires at the Mexican Embassy in Nicaragua, said that they hope to contribute to the development and welfare of children in this Central American country with this donation.

Healthcare is a right that we must protect and cultivate, the diplomat reaffirmed.
