Chinese city speeds up vaccination to counter Covid-19 outbreak

Beijing, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The southwestern Chinese city of Ruili that borders Myanmar on Thursday expanded its Covid-19 vaccination program, as part of the fighting against the current outbreak that reported 29 cases.

As a whole, that city adopted measures with a view to curbing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the disease, and strengthened the medical institutions with the necessary supplies to prevent deaths among those cases.

According to reports, four Myanmar citizens were among the first Covid-19 patients and the outbreak is suspected to have been caused by groups of smugglers.

China keeps the disease under control, has had no internal cases for more than a month and only imported cases were reported in daily updates.

In general, the country accumulates 4,851 deaths and 102,762 contagions in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan since the emergence of the disease and the coronavirus that causes it in December 2019.

China has had its borders closed for a year and, according to the highest planning body, the measure could be extended until 70 percent of the population is vaccinated and thus achieving herd immunity by mid-2022.
