A note from the Cuban Embassy in Japan stated that Cuban Ambassador Miguel A. Ramirez held a meeting with the legislators, chaired by Senator Horii Iwao, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Iwao visited Havana in 2017 leading a delegation from the Liberal Democratic Party, and belongs to the Parliamentary League of Friendship with Cuba.
He was accompanied by Senator Wada Masamune, from Miyagi Prefecture and a member of the ruling party’s Foreign Policy Committee, and Senator Honda Akiko, linked to the pharmacology sector.
On the occasion, the diplomatic headquarters indicates, Ramirez also referred to Cuba’s progress in the biopharmaceutical industry and the development of five Covid-19 vaccine candidates, and agreed on the wide possibilities of cooperation in this sector.
They also exchanged about other current issues and the bilateral agenda, including the tightening in recent years of the US economic blockade against Cuba and its extraterritorial effects, the note concludes.
