This increase will be achieved thanks to the process optimization, the network expansion and clearance to extract six doses from the same vial, the group explained in a statement.
Pfizer and BioNTech delivered over 200 million vaccines across the globe until March 23, 2021.
Last week’s approval of a new plant in Marbourg, in southern Germany, will support this increase.
Some 250 million doses will be produced in that place, which will start operation in mid-April, in the first six months of the year, and annual production will reach one billion doses.
This factory will be the second production center of the vaccine in Europe together with that in Puurs, Belgium. In addition, this vaccine is also produced in three plants in the United States.
