According to CPCE statistics, 112,218 deaths and 4,194,616 contagions with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the lethal pandemic, were reported in Africa.
The report by the continental health institution shows that 281 deaths and 9,136 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours in all 55 states that make up the African Union.
Those statistics correspond to Prensa Latina’s daily count based on CPCE reports.
Even with the probable deficiencies in the reports by the African health systems, the figures are minimal compared to those from other continents with greater and better resources, including the former European metropolises where the pandemic is causing enormous human and economic havoc.
Since the World Health Organization (WHO) informed the onset of the disease in December 2019, the pandemic has killed at least 2,792,586 people and 127,546,270 Covid-19 cases have been reported globally, most of whom have recovered, although they will suffer from sequels for a long time, according to studies.
