Speaking at the online meeting dedicated to address the challenges in the sector a year after the outbreak of the pandemic, Deputy Minister of Education Dania Lopez stressed that Cuba guarantees the continuity of its free, inclusive, equitable and quality education system, which she described as well structured.

We have adopted alternatives based on the educational process for the comprehensive training of students and the scientific-methodological preparation of teachers and managers, she said at the ministerial-level meeting, which was opened by UNESCO director general Audrey Azoulay.

According to the official, Cuba learned from the new circumstances imposed by Covid-19 and assumed the commitment to change its educational institutions.

We went to a family school, and in that sense we reinforced the use of audiovisual media and learned to look at the role of education sciences, the optimal use of technologies and the irreplaceable figure of the teacher from a different perspective, she said at the forum, which included several messages, among them from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Lopez affirmed that the challenges are enormous, but have led to progress in the preparation of teachers to face situations such as this, the production of media and resources for digital transformation in teaching, research and educational technologies in the sector, and school health.
