Ecuador in final stage of electoral campaign

Quito, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) The candidates for the presidency of Ecuador, Luisa Gonzalez, of Revolucion Ciudadana (Citizen's Revolution), and incumbent President Daniel Noboa are in the final stage of the campaign on Monday for April 13 runoff.

From this Monday until Thursday, April 10, the contenders will be focused on political events to tip the balance of votes in their favor in elections whose results are expected to be close.

This Sunday, Gonzalez led a massive mobilization in Machala city, with proposals focused on public works, national security, and defense of citizens’ rights.

Meanwhile, Noboa was in Guayaquil to reiterate his intention to reform the Constitution to “modernize the State” and promised support for small agricultural producers.

In the first round held on February 9 with 16 candidates to the presidency, Noboa and Gonzalez passed to the runoff with a difference of less than 17,000 votes, which showcases the social polarization and tightness of the race.

More than 13.7 million citizens will vote next Sunday to decide whether to reelect Noboa for a full term (2025-2029) or make Gonzalez the first woman to win an election in Ecuador.

This electoral process is taking place amid questions about the current president not asking for a license from the National Assembly for campaigning and the alleged partiality denunciations of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and other institutions.
