Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun noted that China welcomes Rousseff’s continuity leading the NDB and acknowledges her role in promoting development cooperation.
Guo also reiterated support for that bank and Beijing’s commitment to strengthening financial institutions led by the BRICS countries.
According to official information, the NDB is a multilateral development bank established by the BRICS states to mobilize resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in developing and emerging nations.
BRICS, initially founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, expanded in January 2024 to embrace Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ethiopia, and Iran. Indonesia joined the bloc in January 2025.
Other nations, including Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan, joined BRICS as associate members.
