“We will be involved in this coordination process; it no longer has to do with the tariff issue. It’s about following up on the agreements we reached on security,” the president said on Tuesday, referring to the first high-level binational meeting on this issue, held in February in Washington.
The president recalled in a press conference that both parties agreed on a series of points at the previous meeting. “We will receive her jointly, the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of Security, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and I,” she explained, specifying that the meeting will take place around 1:00 p.m. local time.
Sheinbaum emphasized that a report will not be issued, but that it is important to “know the results of the security cabinet.”
As part of her visits to several countries in the region, Noem visited El Salvador on Wednesday, where she visited the maximum-security prison where Venezuelans deported by the United States for allegedly belonging to criminal gangs are being held.
Yesterday, the US official visited Colombia, where she discussed bilateral relations with President Gustavo Petro, including security, drug trafficking, migration, and the repatriation of Colombians.
