Xia held talks with Angolan President Joao Lourenco at the Presidential Palace in Cidade Alta, as well as Foreign Minister Tete Antonio.
The conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) dominated the talks, considering Angola’s role as mediator and chair of the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), in addition to holding the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU).
The UN, in turn, seeks to implement the resolution adopted by the Security Council on February 21, which condemns the offensive and the advances of the March 23 Movement (M23) in North Kivu and South Kivu, with the support of the Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF).
The multilateral organization, which is due to meet again in early April, decided that the M23 must immediately cease hostilities, withdraw from Goma, Bukavu, and all areas under its control, including land and lake routes, and reverse completely the establishment of illegitimate parallel administrations in the DRC.
Xia arrived in Luanda on Sunday as a coordinating element with regional organizations such as the AU, the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), and the ICGLR to seek ways for dialogue and foster peace.
