According to South Africa’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, geopolitical issues are the focus of the meeting, which, he said, is an opportunity to lay a bridge between Global South and Global North.
Lamola also added that the event will defend the right to development of the Global South, especially African countries, in terms of development financing. He explained that African nations still receive less finance for development.
Moreover, the minister continued that less than three percent of global financial resources go to the African continent for climate change issues, even though we are among the most affected.
The Ministerial Summit also has the added value when reaching some of the goals expressed by South Africa that the African Union (AU) will be present as a full member of the G20.
The Summit is held amid active regional armed conflicts, such as those taking place in Ukraine, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Yemen, and Sudan, and diplomatic tensions exacerbated by the actions of the current administration of US President Donald Trump.
