Hungarian ambassador visits central Cuban province

Santa Clara, Cuba, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) Hungarian Ambassador to Cuba Balázs Heincz visited the central province of Villa Clara on Tuesday to explore possibilities for collaboration in sectors such as industry, agri-food projects and scientific research.

As part of his agenda in the territory, 278 kilometers east of Havana, the European diplomat met with Govenor Milaxy Sánchez, as well as with researchers from the “Marta Abreu” Central University of Las Villas (UCLV), the most multidisciplinary higher education center in the country.

At the meeting, representatives of both countries agreed on the excellent state of collaborative relations and the potential to expand exchanges between scientific institutions, as well as the shared admiration for Ernesto Che Guevara.

During the visit, the Hungarian ambassador spoke with representatives of the business and agricultural sectors, while highlighting the contacts with the Ministry of Higher Education, associated with a doctoral training program where the UCLV has had an important presence since 2000.

Milaxy Sánchez, in turn, highlighted the existence of twenty scientific institutions of national relevance in Villa Clara, with capacities to host mutually beneficial work projects.

Larissa Torres, director of Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and International Cooperation in the Provincial Government, said that the province has 63 international cooperation projects in various areas, and highlighted the values of “Eminente” rum as one of the main productions in Villa Clara.

Balázs Heincz visited areas of the “Primero de Mayo” National Industrial Enterprise for the Production of Household Utensils (INPUD) and the Integral Automation Enterprise, with the purpose of learning about the work of both companies and the options to do business.

This year, Cuba and Hungary are celebrating the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, established on September 15, 1960, and based on mutual respect and cooperation in areas like technology, higher education and science.

In 2024, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez visited Hungary to sign three bilateral agreements, while the parliaments of both countries penned a collaboration deal on digital transformation and the modernization of computer systems.
