Russian PM begins official visit to Vietnam

Hanoi, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has arrived in Vietnam on a two-day official visit, which diplomatic and government sources attribute a special significance to.

Mishustin’s trip, his first to Vietnam, takes place in the context of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 30th, 1950.

According to official sources, the purpose of the visit is to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, established on July 27, 2012, for which they will evaluate the progress of bilateral cooperation and the progress in key projects, and will seek new ways to expand it.

Mishustin’s arrival in Hanoi was preceded by a meeting on Monday between Deputy Prime Ministers Tran Hong Ha and Dmitry Chernyshenko, who reviewed the implementation of cooperation agreements emanating from the 25th session of the Intergovernmental Committee in September 2024.

Media reports said both sides acknowledged that bilateral economic and trade cooperation has not yet reached the potential and level of the strong political-diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The deputy prime ministers called for greater efforts by ministries and sectors to expand the framework of bilateral joint work, remove trade barriers and facilitate investment projects by companies from both countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also received Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation (Rosatom), on Monday, and informed him about Vietnam’s restart of an atomic energy project to ensure energy security. The Vietnamese Prime Minister asked Russia and Rosatom for help in training human resources and transferring technology in order to exploit and optimize their capabilities in this field, to which the visitor responded affirmatively.

Likhachev said that Rosatom is ready to cooperate with Vietnam and help it build nuclear power plants, transfer technologies, improve the rate of localization of nuclear products, and develop science and industry in this field, with a vision of hundreds of years and purposes of socio-economic development.
