China stresses importance of financial ties with UK

Beijing, Jan 13 (Prensa Latina) The financial sector remains a key point in cooperation between China and the United Kingdom, the Foreign Ministry stressed here, noting the commitment of both countries to multilateralism.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun reported at a press conference on the results of the XI Beijing-London Economic and Financial Dialogue, held last Saturday and co-chaired by Vice Premier He Lifeng and British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves.

According to him, the meeting culminated with 69 agreements and mutual commitment to multilateralism and economic globalization.

Guo stressed the two sides’ support for the rules-based multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization as the centerpiece, as well as the need to build an open world economy.

At the dialogue, China and the UK agreed that bilateral cooperation benefits both countries and expressed willingness to safeguard the security and stability of global supply chains, rejecting any form of disengagement or disruption, he added.

According to the spokesman, they also committed to reducing barriers to bilateral investment and fostering a non-discriminatory and open business environment.
