Most of the oil spilled in the Black Sea is being removed

Moscow, Jan 13 (Prensa Latina) Russian specialists have so far removed most of the oil spilled in the Black Sea in recent days, following the sinking of the Volgoneft-239 tanker, which ran aground off the coast of the Temryusk region.

At this time, the remaining oil seams in the water are being removed and manual collection work is being carried out with shovels on the coast, clarified a statement from the operational staff created to deal with the consequences of this ecological catastrophe.

The Russian tanker left an affected area of 2,800 square meters, spread over 300 meters in length, when it ran aground on the 10th near the coast of the Taman Peninsula, in the Kuzbas area, the same source points out.

An emergency situation occurred at the end of last December in the Gulf of Kerch, where the Volgoneft-212 tanker lost its bow in difficult weather conditions, just eight kilometers from the coast.

The Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 tankers were carrying about nine thousand tons of crude oil on board and it is estimated that about three thousand tons fell into the sea.

Another tanker, the Volgoneft-109, also recently sent out distress signals, but in that case no serious incident occurred, the operational staff notes.
