Mexico collaborates with US without subordinating, says Sheinbaum

Mexico City, Jan 12 (Prensa Latina) President Claudia Sheinbaum today reaffirmed the freedom, independence and sovereignty of Mexico, by ensuring that the country will always hold its head high and coordinate and collaborate with the United States, but without subordinating itself.

“Our vision is Mexican Humanism, the fraternity between peoples and nations. That is true: we will always hold our heads high. Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign country and as I have said: we coordinate, we collaborate, but we never subordinate ourselves.”

When presenting the report for her first 100 days of government to a crowd of citizens gathered in the Zócalo of this capital, the president outlined positive moments in the relationship between this Latin American nation and its northern neighbor.

“Like when Benito Juárez (former president of the 19th century) received invaluable help from Abraham Lincoln in his fight against the French invaders, and paid respect to (US) President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for General Lázaro Cárdenas,” she exemplified.

She also highlighted the good relationship of respect and collaboration of the first term of the now president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, with the dignitary Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in particular the signing of the trade agreement between the two countries and Canada.

The head of the Executive highlighted the benefits generated to the three parties thanks to the agreement, especially in the area of import substitution and job creation.

“Our proposal has even been not only with North America, but also to seek from now on the economic and commercial integration of the entire American continent, making it the most powerful region in the world, without exclusions, with prosperity” and respect for sovereignty, she commented.

“That is why,” she reiterated, “I am convinced that the relationship between Mexico and the United States will be good and respectful, and that dialogue will prevail.”

In the face of threats uttered by Trump, including the increase in tariffs on products from this nation and the implementation of mass deportations, the dignitary once again demonstrated the contribution made by her fellow citizens in the neighboring country.

“They contribute to the Mexican economy, but let it be heard loud and clear: they contribute more to the United States economy, since what they send to Mexico is only 20 percent of what they leave there in consumption, savings and taxes,” she argued.

In her opinion, Mexicans are extraordinary workers in the fields, construction and services, and great scientists in universities.

“They are heroes and heroines of the country. Our migrant brothers and sisters do not forget their families and their country, and for that reason we never forget them either; on the contrary: we recognize them and defend them,” she said.
