The 11th edition of this mechanism was chaired by the Chinese Deputy Prime Minister He Lifeng, and Reeves, who underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation.
China is willing to work together with the United Kingdom to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, strengthen strategic communication and expand economic and financial cooperation, He said.
According to the high-ranking official, this will provide a significant boost to develop a stable, mutually beneficial and strategic relationship between the two nations.
Reeves, in turn, stressed the UK’s interest in strengthening pragmatic collaboration in these sectors, noting that her country seeks to build an ongoing, respectful and lasting relationship with China, CCTV reported.
During the meeting, both officials reached a series of agreements and consensuses to promote mutual benefits.
In parallel, He and Reeves attended the 4th Sino-British Financial Services Summit, where delegations of business executives and financial officials from both countries participated.
Reeves’s visit comes at a time when the UK Government is seeking to reestablish relations with the world’s second largest economy, marked by tensions in recent years.
The minister defended her visit by pointing out that it can “unlock tangible benefits” for British businesses, in a context of internal economic challenges.
According to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun, the reactivation of this mechanism aims to implement the consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The high-level dialogue was established in 2008 as a key platform to address strategic, global and long-term issues in the economic and financial field, said Guo, who stressed that as two of the world’s leading economies and financial powers, strengthening trade between China and the UK is in the interest of both countries and their respective sectors.
