“The attack by the United States Congress on the ICC to defend a genocidal maniac is the beginning of global barbarism. This is no longer about governments, it is about peoples,” the president wrote on his X account.
As part of his message, Petro posted a statement from Historic Pact Senator Clara López, in which she also condemns the position of the House of Representatives of the United States.
The congresswoman pointed out that by imposing sanctions on the ICC for having issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu, the Republican majority and 45 Democrats in the House of Representatives of the US Congress are issuing a death certificate to the international justice body, which must judge serious human rights violations.
“The decision covers the citizens of Israel, the United States and its allies with impunity, and formalizes the end of the so-called ‘international order based on rules.’ Now only what the Mister says,” López pointed out.
Last November, the ICC issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
In response, the US House of Representatives approved a bill to impose sanctions on that international court, in an effort to stop the proceedings against US or Israeli citizens.
