Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez said that the program is part of the attention to the causes of violence and will allow such a procedure to be carried out anonymously and voluntarily in the atriums and facilities of temples of all religious denominations.
Rodríguez said this will occur in several states with the support of the Ministry of Defense, the churches and the state and municipal governments.
Addressing the causes is one of the axes of the national security strategy implemented by the administration, along with three others: consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening of intelligence and investigation, and coordination with the federal entities.
As a result of this strategy and according to official figures, the authorities recorded a 16.3 percent decrease in the incidence of intentional homicides between September and December 2024, a period which includes the first three months of the current government.
During that period, law enforcement arrested 7,720 people for high-impact crimes and seized more than 66 tons of drugs, including 1,168 kilograms and 561,000 fentanyl pills, and confiscated more than 3,600 firearms.
