Lebanon’s President-elect orders Gov’t to continue interim role

Beirut, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon's President-elect Joseph Aoun asked the Government on Friday to continue doing its interim role until the formation of the new ministerial Cabinet.

During a meeting at the Baabda Palace, the Head of State thanked caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his Cabinet for efforts during the power vacuum.

After meeting with the president, Mikati commented on the Government’s efforts during the last period, “to overcome the challenges and preserve the state and its institutions.”

President Aoun said the two sides addressed the situation in southern Lebanon, the need for a complete Israeli withdrawal, and the end of violation of Lebanese sovereignty.

By swearing allegiance to the nation, President Joseph Aoun reaffirmed his commitment to work sincerely for the good of the State without protection, favoritism or immunity for any criminal, corrupt, or guilty.

General Joseph Aoun will lead the nation for the next six years and his first task will be to appoint a prime minister after binding parliamentary consultations.
