Cuba rejects US-promoted coup agenda in Venezuela

Havana, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) The Cuba chapter of the Anti-fascist International and the Network in Defense of Humanity rejected the coup agenda promoted by the United States against the Government of Venezuelan legitimate President-elect Nicolás Maduro.

A statement published on the website of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) on Thursday denounced the plot hatched by Edmundo González, “a lackey of imperialism,” who has begun a “tour” of Latin American countries prior to the presidential inauguration for the new term in Venezuela on January 10.

Edmundo González “has been welcomed by several right-wing leaders. It is shameful to see how the Guaidó 2.0 agenda, which caused so much pain to the Venezuelan people and was heroically defeated by them, at the cost of great sacrifices and the theft of a considerable part of the nation’s heritage, is being reissued.”

“The enemies of the Great Homeland, the old imperialisms of the West, intend to tarnish, with this ‘supposed tour,’ what should be a date of joy for the South American nation and the continent, and open the doors to sanctioning agendas and violent destabilization whose declared objective is to regain control of the wealth and resources of that great land of grace called Venezuela,” the text pointed.

In this regard, the anti-fascist movement called from Havana on “the peoples and all revolutionary and progressive forces to defend in a closed bloc the Bolivarian Revolution, its conquests and its people. At this time, more than ever, we must walk, as Martí asked, “in close ranks, like silver in the roots of the Andes.”

“The cause of Venezuela is that of all of us who want a better and more just world,” the statement concluded.
