At the meeting, one month after the fall of the government of President Bashar Al-Assad, Ambassador Fu pointed out that China expects that an open and inclusive political solution process will soon begin.
“China supports a more important role for the UN and the special envoy (Swedish Geir) Pedersen in that process,” the diplomat added.
Secondly, he stressed that there must be zero tolerance of terrorism within Syria’s borders. The ambassador stressed, as a third point, that the humanitarian crisis in Syria must be addressed by the UN, accelerating international aid. Finally, he stressed that the Golan is recognized as Syrian territory, and the occupation of the mountainous region by Israel is “null and void,” and stressed that Syria’s sovereignty must be respected.
