Indian FM: technology and tradition are India’s basis for progress

New Delhi, Jan 8 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar expressed the need to move forward hand in hand with technology and tradition, to make India a developed country by 2047, at the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conclave in Odisha, which opened the 18th Convention between the Indian government and the diaspora.

The Minister of External Affairs said India is on the right track to address long-standing challenges and build a modern, inclusive, and progressive society. He noted that youth can determine the pace of that effort and the achievement of those goals if they are impregnated with the right motivation.

Jaishankar stressed that the idea of the conclave is to recognize the special contribution that young minds make, both at home and abroad, and to connect them more effectively for mutual good. “At a time when so many key developments in the world are being shaped by this younger generation, whether we are talking about artificial intelligence and electric vehicles, innovation or start-ups, space or drones, sports (chess, cricket), there is more reason to do so,” he said, adding that ambitious visions need strong foundations to become reality and given the rapidity of the changes underway.

The forum is part of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, considered by the Government its flagship event, and is attended by over six thousand diaspora representatives. The event also serves as a platform to recognize and celebrate the contributions of that sector in the economy, culture, and politics, both for India and its host countries, and facilitates discussions on issues relevant to the diaspora, such as visa regulations, investment opportunities, and community welfare.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has been celebrated on January 9 every year since 2003 to commemorate the contribution of the overseas Indian community to India’s development.
