The first days of the elections period, which began last Sunday and will run until February 6, have been marked by the questioning of the president-candidate, Daniel Noboa, who has not asked for a license for this phase, as established by the national electoral law.
Three presidential candidates accused the president of committing electoral violations, something that the Minister of Government, José de la Gasca, ruled out, for whom “in no case has the president violated either the law or the Constitution.”
The official insisted that the head of State is not “constitutionally or legally obliged” to ask for the leave, considering that for Noboa it is not a re-election, since he came to the office to complete the term of former President Guillermo Lasso after the “muerte cruzada” of 2023.
On the other hand, the candidate of the Citizen Revolution movement, Luisa González, who together with Noboa leads the polls, gathered on Monday thousands of people in Otavalo, Imbabura province, where she presented her social and economic proposals to revive Ecuador.
Amid slogans such as “A single turn, Luisa president!” González reaffirmed his commitment to change.
