The Bolivarian Foreign Ministry categorically rejected the statements by the Paraguayan president and decided to proceed with the immediate withdrawal of its diplomatic personnel accredited in that nation, in the full exercise of its sovereignty.
The official text stated that Peña “relapses into a failed practice that recalls the political fantasies of the extinct Lima Group with its ridiculous adventure called (Juan) Guaidó.”
It stressed that these actions represent a reissue of strategies without political, legal or social support, which have proven to be a resounding failure.
“It is regrettable that governments such as that of Paraguay continue to subordinate their foreign policy to the interests of foreign powers, promoting agendas to undermine democratic principles and the will of free peoples,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The Bolivarian Republic reiterated its commitment to the defense of the peoples’ democracy, peace and self-determination, essential principles in the United Nations Charter, it asserted.
It also reaffirmed that “no buffoonery instructed by international fascism will succeed in bending the will of a people who are firm in the construction of its own destiny.”
On Sunday, Peña spoke via telematics with former Presidential Candidate Edmundo González, to whom he ratified his support “as the winner” of the July 28 elections, and with opposition leader María Corina Machado.
