Colombian President regrets the deaths of Palestinian children

Bogota, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) Colombian President Gustavo Petro today lamented the deaths of Palestinian children due to the low temperatures in that region and the aggressions to which they are subjected by Israeli forces.

To the babies killed by the bombings in Gaza are now added the babies killed by the cold.

Gaza’s children are literally dying from the cold’, the president wrote on his social network X.

Besides reviewing the recent history of the conflict, the head of state acknowledged that the nationalist influx forged a political current under the newly created state of Israel, which led to the violent expulsion of Palestinians from their own homes and villages, which has been going on since the middle of the last century.

“There was never any justice for the Palestinian people, they were segregated in their own homeland and factions of their heartland had to resort in an armed manner to the national liberation struggle,” he recalled.

He added that the conflict had been going on for decades and had the possibility of a peaceful solution when progressive factions within the Palestinian people: Yasser Arafat, and the Israeli people: Yitzhak Rabin, a Palestinian-born Jew, decided (…) to shake hands.

At this point, he regretted that the protagonists of peace are today dead and most of them assassinated.

Today the incapable action of Zionism, strongly supported by the international financial capital they partially control, prevents peace and unleashes horror on Palestine, leading its most radical factions into the trap of terrorism’, he said.

He then mentioned that peace is a human priority and recommended that the progressive currents in the Arab world, in Israel and in the United States should meet.

Colombia must be attentive to help whenever it is requested.

Colombia’s path inside and outside the country is Peace’, he remarked.
