The media outlet Montevideo Portal reported the incident occurred in the capital neighborhood of Ellauri, in the south of this city, where a 22-year-old man, who was holding his two-year-old daughter, was gunned down by strangers riding on a motorcycle.
The victim was shot eight times and transported alive to a hospital, where he died a short time later.
The girl, aged two, was shot four to five times. She is in hospital with little hope of survival, the source said.
At the scene, police recovered 17 casings of Glock pistols, according to the Interior Ministry.
