This recent annotated and compiled edition by Editorial Letras Cubanas and the Alejo Carpentier Foundation was highlighted at the event, which was attended by Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso and the directors of various institutions.
The presentation of the novel was introduced by BNCJM Director Omar Valiño, who also presented the panel, made up of Doctor in Pedagogy Rafael Rodríguez Beltrán and two experts from Letras Cubanas and the Foundation.
The meeting extolled Carpentier’s career as an important legacy for Cuban literature and the Spanish language, in which he is acknowledged as one of the great writers of the 20th century.
“The Rite of Spring” was written as a tribute to the Cuban Revolution and is considered to have inaugurated a new revolutionary art that is fully Latin American.
The event concluded, in tune with the artistic feeling of the great writer being honored, with French and Cuban music by Orquestra de Cámara de La Habana, under the direction of Daiana García.
Throughout Cuba and during this year, Carpentier has been remembered in numerous events, as the second writer to receive the important Miguel de Cervantes Prize, which was awarded to him in 1977.
This prestigious award is considered the highest acknowledgement of the creative work of Spanish and Latin American authors whose work has contributed significantly to enriching the literary heritage in the Spanish language.
