In a message on the occasion of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the president stressed that 2025 will mark half a century of Angolan independence (November 11, 1975), an event of relevant importance in the history of the struggle against colonization, slavery and foreign domination.
He said that to commemorate the date the government has devised a broad program of celebrations with political, cultural, academic, scientific, sports, religious activities, inaugurations and decorations of citizens.
He also indicated that in the next few days he would sign a Presidential Decree pardoning a certain unspecified number of citizens, who are serving sentences in the country’s prisons.
Lourenço added that this act will be repeated throughout the year on dates to be determined.
