Nicaragua: Russia assesses interoceanic canal project

Managua, Dec 21 (Prensa Latina) The Russian ambassador to Nicaragua, Mikhail Ledenev, said today that his government is studying the possibility of working on the mega interoceanic canal project in Nicaragua.

This recent proposal by President Daniel Ortega and Vice-President Rosario Murillo is being studied in depth, the diplomat stressed at a press conference.

He also highlighted the historic bilateral relations between Managua and Moscow, which celebrated their 80th anniversary this month, and explained that they have the concept to make progress in several areas.

In the field of education, we continue to offer scholarships and we can increase the number of these, Ledenev said, while pointing to the tourism sector as an interesting possibility for cooperation.

There is interest from Russian tourists in Nicaragua, of course it is a beautiful country and it offers various tourist opportunities, it has various characteristics, so it is a possibility, it is very possible that we can move forward in this aspect,” he said.

He also mentioned the agricultural sector, commenting on the possibility of supplying more fertiliser to Nicaragua, as well as importing and exporting the production of both countries.

On the cultural front, the ambassador mentioned the recent unveiling of a bust of Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío at the Library of International Literature in Moscow.

He added that the celebration of the Nicaraguan Dance Days is planned for 2025 and stressed the importance of strengthening cultural exchanges.

Ledenev said that bilateral relations are an example for other countries in the world, as both nations respect each other’s sovereignty.

Alluding to the emergence of a multipolar world, he reiterated that this vision of change is one of the aspects that unites the Eurasian nation with the Central American country.

When we talk about multipolarity, BRICS is one of them. It is one of the new trends in the International Relations, and advances at accelerated pace,fastest than any other economic centers, the chief diplomat said.
