Díaz-Canel extols Cuba’s ability to overcome obstacles

Havana, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel said on Friday that in order to overcome the obstacles imposed by the United States, the heroism, intelligence and creativity that distinguish the Cuban people must prevail.

Speaking on the closing day of the 4th Ordinary Session of the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament), Díaz-Canel stressed that Cuba is the country with the longest period under the blockade, but not the only one.

“We constantly read news of people and countries surrounded by sanctions, the new hawks speak of peace through force, they deeply despise the diplomacy promoted for understanding with nations that they do not consider their equals, which they despise,” he added.

The president commented that as a political response to global economic challenges, Cuba has proposed to combine forces and efforts in the defense of the chosen social system, guaranteeing the maximum possible justice under the current circumstances.

The head of State noted that it is increasingly evident that the world needs to move towards the construction of a new international order with the participation of all, to which Cuba is willing to contribute.

In his opinion, it must be a more equitable and peaceful order, which respects the sovereignty of all nations under conditions of equality and attached to international law, and promotes sustainable development.

Regarding the arrival of a new US administration, he pointed out, “We are aware of the possible implications associated with the arrival in power in the United States of a new Government, in which politicians with very aggressive intentions against Cuba will have great influence.”

“As we have said, it was a foreseeable scenario and we have been preparing ourselves in advance,” he added.

Díaz-Canel assured that Cuba is fully aware of what the Government that ends in the United States has done over these four years, which “bet on the collapse of the Revolution through the ruthless implementation of the system of coercive measures established by its predecessor to reinforce the economic blockade.”

In his speech, Díaz-Canel referred to the complex world scenario and how the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Cuba affect it.

In this regard, he noted that “Cuba and no other country can live and develop outside the prevailing economic order and affected by a genocidal blockade.”

This “clearly does not exempt the State or the Government from the essential self-criticism, nor does it free us from the analysis of dissatisfaction,” he stated.
